Joanne Diefenderfer Obituary

Joanne E. Diefenderfer, 87, of Bethlehem passed away peacefully on March 10, 2018, in her home under the care of her family and hospice. Born on April 5, 1930 in Philadelphia, PA. she was the daughter of Dr. Weston and Dr. Jennie Werst. Joanne and her beloved late husband Joseph Morrison celebrated 28 years of marriage prior to his death in 1986. Joanne then reunited with her high school classmate, Judge James Diefenderfer in 1992 and was widowed for a second time in 2007.

Joanne's most cherished accomplishment was raising, caring for, and loving her children and grandchildren, she was a real mom. She was a retired teacher from the Bethlehem Area School District where she taught art, coached cheerleading, and assisted with school theater productions. Joanne enjoyed knitting, reading, and painting water colors. Joanne was a past President of the American Business Women's Association. She enjoyed organizing and working to plan class reunions for the Liberty High School Class of 1948. Joanne loved all things Liberty High School including the Grenadier Band and Orchestra, Vespers, Hurricane football.

Survivors: she will be lovingly rememberer by her children Kathy Halkins wife of James Halkins of Bethlehem, Carolyn Luckenbach, wife of Len Luckenbach of Florida, Joseph Morrison partner of Cindy DeMatto of Allentown, and James Morrison and wife Robin of Bethlehem; sister Deborah Seigman of Texas. Joanne had 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Weston Werst.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Ss Simon and Jude Catholic Church 730 W Broad St, Bethlehem, PA 18018. A reception will follow with the family immediately after the Mass. Interment will be private. Joanne's arrangements have been entrusted to the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Liberty High School Grenadier Band (LGSGB) c/o Liberty High School, 1115 Linden Street, Bethlehem, PA 18018.
