Obituary for Augustine Neimeister
Augustine F. “Gus” Neimeister, 95, of Fountain Hill died on April 12, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital-Fountain Hill. He was the loving husband of Maylan V. (Ropos) Neimeister for 68 years.
Born in Bethlehem, he was one of nine children, of the late Stephen and Catherine (Antalics) Neimeister.
He graduated from Liberty High School in 1934, where he received honorable mention as an all state basketball player in his senior year. He continued his education and graduated from Bethlehem Business School.
He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II.
He was a postman for Bethlehem Post Office for 28 years before retiring in 1980. Previously, he worked at People’s Bank and First National Bank of South Bethlehem. He and his brother, Joseph, had owned and operated the former Kelso Service Station at the base of the Fahy bridge.
Gus was a member of St. Ursula’s Catholic Church, Fountain Hill. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society; St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church Society; First Windish Benefit Society of America; Fountain Hill Hose Co. #1 and its Golf League. He was an avid NY Yankees fan.
Surviving with his wife, sons, Tom and his wife Rosemary of Bethlehem; Gus and his wife Linda of West Chester; four grandchildren, Alison, Tommy, Kate and Steven.
